Andrew Carraway pitched seven strong innings in the Cavaliers' 11-inning win over Wake Forest.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Jarrett Parker (Fr., Stafford, Va.) hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 11th inning to score Corey Hunt (So., Charlottesville, Va.) and give the No. 16 Virginia baseball team a 3-2 win over Wake Forest Sunday in the rubber game of a three-game series at Davenport Field.

Starting pitchers Andrew Carraway (Jr., Marietta, Ga.) of Virginia and Ben Hunter of Wake Forest locked up in tight battle throughout, with each allowing just two runs. Carraway pitched seven innings, while Hunter went eight.

Michael Schwimer (Sr., Alexandria, Va.) earned the win for Virginia and improved to 2-1 after tossing a season-high 3.1 innings and allowing a hit and two walks with one strikeout. Carraway went seven innings and gave up two earned runs and seven hits. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.

Brad Kledzik (1-4) took the loss for Wake after pitching 2.2 innings and giving up one run, three hits and two walks. Hunter allowed two runs, six hits and two walks while striking out seven in his strong eight-inning effort.

Jeremy Farrell (Jr., Westlake, Ohio), David Coleman (Fr., Richmond, Va.) and Franco Valdes (So., Miami, Fla.) each had two hits for Virginia. Parker also had a solid day and went 1-for-2 while reaching base three times and driving in two runs. He hit the game-tying single in the seventh inning before collecting the game-winning RBI in the 11th.

Mike Murray, Dustin Hood and Andy Goff each recorded two hits for the Demon Deacons.

Wake Forest (15-24, 7-13 ACC) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Smith, but Virginia (31-11, 13-8) responded with a run in the fourth inning on a two-out Coleman double to plate Dan Grovatt (Fr., Tabernacle, N.J.).

The Demon Deacons got the run right back in the fifth inning on a Ben Terry double to score Goff. The Cavaliers then knotted the score in the seventh inning on a Parker single which scored Valdes.

Both teams had opportunities to push across the go-ahead run in the late innings, but the Demon Deacons left runners stranded in each of the final four innings and the Cavaliers left the bases loaded in the ninth and a runner at third in the 10th.

Virginia broke the stalemate in the 11th inning. Valdes led off with a double down the right-field line. Hunt pinch ran for him and advanced on a John Barr (Fr., Ivyland, Pa.) sacrifice bunt. He scored when Parker launched a fly ball to deep left field for a sacrifice fly and the walk-off win.

Virginia plays two midweek games this week. The Cavaliers entertain Georgetown at 6 p.m. Tuesday and William & Mary at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
