Carrie Goodloe’s (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs) assist 1:10 into the game for Jess Coleman (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional) was not only the game-winning assist but also was her 30th career assist, making her only the 6th Cavalier in school history to record 30 assists. Goodloe was the stick stop on Coleman’s corner conversion. Julia Richardson (Atlanta, Ga./Stone Ridge) also recorded an assist on the play. Becky Worthington (Fairview Village, Pa./Methacton) saved the only Ursinus shot of the day, preserving the shutout, the third consecutive shutout for the Hoos.

Virginia increased their lead to 2-0 6 minutes later as Rosie Walker (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casay) corralled a Lorraine Vizzuso (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex) cross-pass and sent the ball into the circle where Katie Slocum (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle Area) redirected it into the cage. The Cavaliers went up 3-0 as Katie Jo Gerfen (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) collected a loose ball off a Goodloe shot and slammed it into the cage at the 18:54 mark. With just under five minutes to play, Coleman sent a long ball down the right sideline where it was collected by Abby Crawford (Weatherford, Tex./Trinity Valley), who brought it to the corner and sent it into the circle. Vizzuso tipped the ball into the top shelf of the cage for a 4-0 lead the Cavaliers took to the break. It was Crawford’s first career point.

The Cavalier defense allowed only one shot, which came in the first half, and a pair of corners, one in each stanza.

In the second half the Cavalier offense did not generate a goal until a pair of tallies in the final three minutes of play. Gerfen scored her second goal of the game off a corner play, with Mason White (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) pushing and Coleman providing the stick stop. Just over a minute later Shannon LaVigne (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank W. Cox) hit her first collegiate career goal as she stuck back a rebound, giving the Cavaliers a 6-0 lead with 1:46 remaining in the contest.

Virginia returns to action on Wednesday as the Hoos travel to Harrisonburg to face the James Madison Dukes. Game time is 7:30 on October 11.
