Bobby Thiele (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville) finished fifth in today’s NCAA Southeast Regional to lead the men’s team to a 5th place finish in today’s race. With his finish, Thiele qualifies for the NCAA Championships to be held next Saturday at Iowa State.
The men’s team finished fifth with 146 points, just behind Wake Forest’s 143. William & Mary won the meet with 49 points. Justin Wood (Nevada City, Calif./Nevada Union) was the second finisher for the Cavaliers with a run of 31:19 in 21st place. Twenty-eight men’s teams ran in the race.
The women also finished fifth with a team score of 123. The ACC swept the top five places with N. C. State winning with 72, followed by UNC (83), Wake (117), and Duke (120). Sarah Folse (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) was the top finisher for the Cavaliers with a run of 22:10, good enough for 17th place. She came in right ahead of Dana Coons (Vienna, Va./James Madison) who ran 22:11 and finished 18th. Twenty-six teams finished on the women’s side.
