Keith Friel Allocated To Roanoke Dazzle Of The National Basketball Development League

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Former University of Virginia basketball player Keith Friel was allocated recently to the Roanoke Dazzle of the National Basketball Development League (NBDL).

Friel, a 6-4 guard from Durham, N.H., lettered twice and provided instant offense off the Virginia bench with his long-range shooting during his two years in the UVa program after transferring from Notre Dame. As a senior during the 2000-01 season, he averaged 8.4 points a game, made a team-high 62 three-point field goals and was one of the team’s tri-captains. He led the Atlantic Coast Conference in three-point field goal percentage (42.8 percent, 62-145) in 2000-01 and shot 90.3 percent (28-31) from the free throw line.

During his two seasons at Virginia, Friel made 107 three-point field goals and ranks eighth on UVa’s career three-point field goals made list (107-254, 42.1 percent).

Friel finished second to Penn State’s Joe Crispin in the three-point shooting competition at the 13th Annual College Slam Dunk and Three-Point Basketball Championships in Saint Paul, Minn., on March 29, 2001.

Roanoke is one of eight charter teams in the NBDL. Each of the teams in the league has been allocated a total of four players. A minimum of one allocation player is guaranteed a spot on each team’s final roster. Former UVa player Harold Deane was allocated to the Roanoke Dazzle in September.

The other charter teams in the NBDL are located in Asheville, N.C., Columbus, Ga., Fayetteville, N.C., Greenville, S.C., Huntsville, Ala., Mobile, Ala., and North Charleston, S.C.
