Virginia Defeats Wake Forest, 1-0, In ACC Men's Soccer Championship

CLEMSON, S.C. — Kyle Martino scored early in the first overtime period inleading top-seeded Virginia to a 1-0 overtime victory over fourth-seededWake Forest in the first semifinal match of the 15th Annual Atlantic CoastConference Men’s Soccer Championship at Clemson, SC Friday night.

Virginia is ranked second by Soccer America, NSCAA and Soccertimes.com.The Cavaliers are seeded first in the ACC Tournament and remain unbeatenwith a 17-0-1 record this season. Wake Forest is ranked ninth by SoccerAmerica, and 13th by the NSCAA. The Demon Deacons are ranked 12th bySoccertimes.com and fall to 13-5-1 this season.

Martino picked off a pass from the Wake Forest defenders and sent a12-yard shot into an open goal at the 91:26 mark for his sixth goal of theyear.

The Cavaliers will play the winner of the Clemson vs. North Carolina matchSunday afternoon in the championship game at 3:30 p.m. at Clemson’s RiggsField.
