The University of Virginia women’s track & field team was ranked in the latest Trackwire Poll, moving the Cavaliers into the top-25 nationally for the first time this season. The Virginia women’s cross country team was ranked ninth nationally at the end of the cross country season in 2001, making this ranking the second time that the Virginia women have been ranked this academic year. Dawn Cleary, Megan Schwartz, Sharon O’Connor and Erin O’Doherty, members of the cross country team, ran in the 4x1500m Championship of America final at the Penn Relays and took sixth in a time of 18:12.18. Schwartz, O’Connor and O’Doherty joined Leslie Schultz and ran in the 4x800m relay and took tenth in the Championship of America on Saturday in a time of 8:47.97.

On the men’s side, Shay Clark, Scott Kimball, Jason Young and Matt Antunes also competed in a Championship of America Relay, taking ninth in the sprint medley with a time of 3:24.00. Jarrett Hagwood joined Clark, Kimball and Young in the 4x200m relay that finished fourth in the final on Saturday with a time of 1:25.58. These four also teamed up for the 4×100 m IC4A final, running a 40.99 today. John Welch took fourth in the college men’s javelin championship, throwing a 66.81m.
