Virginia Men’s Soccer Prepares For Clemson In UVa’s Final Regular Season Road Game Of The Season

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia men’s soccer team will make its final regular season road trip of the 2002 season when UVa travels to Clemson, S.C. to face the Clemson Tigers on Sunday, October 13th. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. and will be played at Historic Riggs Field on the campus of Clemson University. The Cavaliers stand 6-4-1 overall, 1-2-0 in the ACC and are ranked #21 in the NSCAA adidas/Coaches Poll. The Tigers are 8-1-1 overall, 1-1-0 in the conference and are ranked #4 in Soccer America’s Top 25 and #9 in the NSCAA Top 25.

Virginia leads the all-time series with Clemson 19-17-4. However, despite holding a lead in the series history, the Tigers have outscored the Cavaliers by a combined score of 69-54. Clemson also won the last meeting between the two schools when the Tigers defeated the Cavaliers by the score of 1-0 on November 18, 2001 in the ACC Tournament at Clemson, S.C. Prior to that contest, UVa defeated Clemson by the score of 2-0 on October 13, 2001 in Charlottesville. Virginia won the last regular season game between the two schools that was played in Clemson, S.C. when the Cavaliers posted a 3-2 victory over the Tigers on October 15, 2000.

Virginia is winless on the road this season with a record of 0-2-0 after dropping a pair of 2-1 contests to conference foes #13 Wake Forest (Sept. 14th) and #16 North Carolina (Sept. 21st). Clemson is undefeated at home and boasts a record of 5-0-0 after wins over UNC-Greensboro (3-1), Garner Webb (7-0), N.C. State (3-2), Gonzaga (2-0) and Fairfield (3-0). The Tigers have outscored their opponents by a combined score of 18-3 in five home matches at Historic Riggs Field.

UVa is currently riding a season-high three game win streak (all by shutout) after defeating N.C. State (4-0), Marshall (3-0) and Hartwick (5-0). The Tigers have won six consecutive matches and are fresh off an 8-0 shutout victory in a road match against Wofford on October 9th.

Following its match with Clemson, Virginia will return to home action for the remainder of the season by hosting seven consecutive home matches, beginning with a contest against the Liberty Flames on Wednesday, October 16th in Kl?ckner Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
