Princeton, N.J. – The UVa women’s tennis team improved to 4-0 in the spring, 6-1 overall, with a 4-3 win at Princeton. The Cavaliers are currently No. 42 in the latest ITA rankings, while the Tigers are at No. 63. UVa won without its No. 1 player Henriette Williams, who was out of action due to illness.

Jennifer Tuchband, moving up to compete at No. 1 singles, defeated Kavitha Krwhnamarthy, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1. Krwhnamarthy is ranked No. 40 nationally in singles. Tuchband improves to 8-4 on the season. Amy O’Donnell scored a clinching victory at No. 2 singles, coming back from being down three match point, to defeat Kristi Watson, at No. 2 singles, 5-7, 7-5, 6-3. O’Donnell is 7-2 on the season. Dora and Marta Bechliwanis also picked up victores at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively. Dora defeated Priya Bhupathi 6-1, 6-0, while Marta defeated Stephanie Berg, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. Dora improves to 9-3, while Marta picks up her team-best 11th win of the season.

In doubles, the Bechliwanis twins defeated Watson and Bhupathi at No. 1 doubles, 9-7. They are 3-2 as a team this season, their first match at No. 1 doubles.

Up next for the Cavaliers, a match at Pennsylvania tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
