COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Virginia women’s swimming and diving team moved up to second place with 403 points after the second day of competition at the 23rd annual Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships Friday (February 22) at the University of Maryland Campus Recreation Center Natatorium. Third-year All-American swimmer Mirjana Bosevska (Skopje, Macedonia/Trinity Prep) won her second individual title of the meet and also helped the Cavaliers win the 800 freestyle relay during the second of three days of competition.

Defending ACC champion North Carolina leads after 13 events with 432.5 points, while Virginia is second with 403 points. Florida State is third with 374 points. Clemson is fourth with 282.5 points, followed by Maryland (254), N.C. State (209), Duke (175) and Georgia Tech (165).

Bosevska, who won the 200 individual medley Thursday night, won her third consecutive 400 individual medley at the ACC Championships by posting an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 4:11.76. She set both the ACC Meet and pool records with her performance. Bosevska also swam a leg on UVa’s winning 800 free relay team that clocked a school record time of 7:15.75. UVa was just one one-hundredth of a second shy of the ACC Meet record as well. Third-year All-American Cara Lane (Charlotte, N.C./Providence), first-year Laura Lipskis (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) and second-year Carlie Dykehouse (Gainesville, Fla./Trinity Prep) each swam legs on the winning relay.

Lipskis also earned runner-up honors in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:48.08. Dykehouse was right behind Lipskis in third place with a time of 1:48.21. Fourth-year Megan Roesch (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) rounded out a two-three-four UVa finish in the 200 free by posting a fourth-place time of 1:49.14.

In addition to Bosevska winning the 400 individual medley, the Cavaliers had two other swimmers finish in the top eight of the event. Second-year Amy Baly (Atlanta, Ga./Marist School) also automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships by finishing second with a time of 4:15.71, while first-year Kate Wrenshall (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bolles School) was seventh in a time of 4:24.73. UVa first-year Andrea Georoff (Winter Park, Fla./Trinity Prep) took fourth place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.41, while second-year Cynthia Roller (Herndon, Va./Herndon) was fifth (55.56). In the 100 breaststroke, first-year Coco Buck (Herndon, Va./Herndon) clocked a time of 1:03.97 to finish sixth.

In the 200 medley relay, the Cavalier foursome of third-year Lindsey Crane (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), fourth-year Caitlin Anderson (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne’s), Georoff and Roesch placed fifth with a time of 1:44.56.

The UVa women wrap up competition in the 2002 ACC Championships Saturday (February 23). Preliminaries begin at 11:00 a.m. and finals commence at 7:00 p.m.
