Charlottesville, Va. ? The UVa women’s tennis team returns home to host Florida State on Sunday, March 17, at 1 p.m. at the Sheridan Snyder Tennis Center. This also marks the 2002 ACC opener for the Cavaliers.

The team will look to build on an 8-3 start to the season. The Cavaliers return from a Florida trip, where they defeated Boston University, 6-1, on March 9, while dropping a 6-1 decision to No. 28 Miami, Fla., on March 11.

In addition to its team national ranking, the Cavaliers have three individuals ranked in singles competition. Jennifer Tuchband (10-5/No. 2 singles) is ranked No. 51 in the nation. Amy O’Donnell (10-3/No. 3 singles) and Marta Bechliwanis (15-3/No. 5 singles are also ranked, O’Donnell at No. 122 and Bechliwanis at No. 136.

In only her first year, Bechliwanis holds the team lead in victories with 15. Her twin sister Dora is second on the team with 11 victories. O’Donnell and Tuchband are tied for third with 10 victories each.

The Bechliwanis twins have also been strong in doubles, compiling a 5-4 record, including a 4-3 record at No. 2 doubles. Tuchband and Henriette Williams have won their last two matches at No. 1 doubles, while O’Donnell and Christine Kim have won four of their last five at No. 3 doubles.

Following its match with Florida State, UVa hosts Richmond on Wednesday, March 20 at 1 p.m., at the Sheridan Snyder Tennis Center.
