GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia sophomore LaTonya Blue (Baltimore, Md.) earned her first Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week honor, ACC officials announced on Monday.
In Virginia’s only action on the week, Blue sparked UVa to a 69-59 upset of No. 7/8 North Carolina in front of 7,034 fans and a national television audience, sealing the Cavaliers’ third-place finish in the ACC. The guard netted her second double-double of the season (third of her career) with a season-high 25 points, just one point shy of her career-best, and 10 rebounds against the Tar Heels. She also nailed a career-best four buckets from behind the arc. Blue went 7-8 from the line and dished out a game-high five assists. The Cavaliers held UNC to season-lows in points (59) and field goal percentage (.303)
After 27 contests, Blue stands third in team scoring with 9.3 ppg. She leads the team in assists with 92.
The Player of the Week honor is Blue’s first. She earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors last season.
