Maryland (13-1 overall) earned the top seed on the women’s side with a perfect 3-0 conference record. The Terrapins have won four ACC tournaments, including three in a row from 1999-2001. They face defending champion North Carolina (5-7 overall, 0-3 ACC) in the first semifinal game Friday at 1 pm.

The second women’s semifinal pits second-seed Duke (11-2 overall, 2-1 ACC) against host Virginia (10-3, 1-2 ACC) in a game scheduled to start at 3:30 pm. Virginia won the ACC Tournament in 1998, while Duke is looking for its first championship.

The Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia men all finished with 2-1 league record to create a three-way logjam for first place. Maryland (7-2 overall) received the top seed in a blind draw by the ACC office and faces Duke (7-5 overall, 0-3 ACC) Friday evening at 6 pm. Duke has won the last two tournaments and is looking to become the first team to win three in a row since North Carolina won the first six from 1989-94. Maryland’s only tournament title occurred in 1998 and was the most recent tourney played at UVa.

Second-seeded Virginia (7-2 overall) hosts North Carolina (5-5 overall) at 8:30 pm in the day’s final game. The Cavaliers won three championships in four years (1997-99-2000), while North Carolina last won in 1996 (also at Kl?ckner Stadium).
