Kelly Hammond Earns Soccer Buzz Honors for Second Consecutive Week

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia women’s soccer second-year midfielder Kelly Hammond (Bowie, Md.) earned Elite Team of the Week recognition by Soccer Buzz for the second consecutive week. Hammond’s honor is also the fourth for a Cavalier this season in the first six weeks of the year.

Hammond led the Cavaliers to a pair of wins last week, downing Richmond 2-1 and Florida State 3-2. In the win at Richmond, she scored the game-winning goal, her ACC leading fifth of the season. Then on Saturday, she scored two goals in Virginia’s 3-2 come-from-behind win over the Seminoles.

For the season, Hammond leads the Cavaliers with nine goals and 22 points. She ranks second in the ACC in goals and points per game.

Hammond and the No. 4 Cavaliers (10-1-1, 2-0 ACC) will return to action this weekend as put their eight-game win streak on the line against No. 16 Wake Forest. The game is the first half of a soccer doubleheader at Kl?ckner Stadium that starts at 5:00 p.m. with the women’s game and is followed by the UVa men hosting Clemson at 7:30 p.m.
