ST. LOUIS, Missouri – University of Virginia wrestling team members Scott Moore (Franklin, Pa./Franklin Academy) and Tim Foley (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) began competition in the 2004 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at the Savvis Center by winning their first matches of the event. Moore, ranked #1 in the country and seeded #1 at 141-pounds, improved his record to 47-0 on the year after recording an 11-3 major decision victory over Wyoming’s Blake Gunter in his first match. Foley, ranked #11 in the nation and seeded #11 at 165-pounds, improved his record to 35-4 on the season after he defeated Wisconsin’s Kelly Flaherty by the score of 14-9 in his first match.

#1 seed Moore will now face Cal Poly SLO’s Steve Esparza in his next match at 141-pounds. #11 seed Foley will face the winner of the Jason Cardillo (Slippery Rock) vs. #6 Ralph Everett (Hofstra) match in the next-round at 165-pounds.
