GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Virginia fourth-year swimmer Fran Crippen (Conshohocken, Pa./Germantown Academy) has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week as announced Monday (October 17). Crippen captured the honor for the eighth time in his career after winning two events in UVa’s 137-101 loss to national power Florida on October 14 at the Aquatic and Fitness Center.

In the 2005-06 season-opener, Crippen swept the 500 and 1000 freestyles and led UVa to one-two finishes in both events against the Gators. He clocked a time of 9:08.62 in winning the 1000 free by more than 10 seconds. In the 500 free, Crippen posted a winning time of 4:27.87. Third-year teammate John Millen (Lilburn, Ga./Parkview) was runner-up to Crippen in both events. Crippen also finished second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:51.66.

Crippen is an 11-time All-American and six-time ACC champion. He was named the ACC Men’s Swimmer of the Year in 2003 and 2004 and also garnered ACC Men’s Freshman of the Year honors in 2003.

The Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams return to action on Saturday, October 29 when they travel to Clemson for their ACC opener. The meet is scheduled to begin at noon.
