Today’s Game: The Cavaliers will look to reach the NCAA round of 16 for the first time in three seasons as they host Tennessee in a second round game Sunday. Virginia downed Liberty 4-0 Friday night in the first round while the Lady Vols defeated Wake Forest 5-2 in the first round.

The Series: Sunday’s game is the fourth all-time meeting between the schools with Virginia holding a 2-1-0 advantage in the series. The game will also be the second meeting of the year between the teams. On September 9, the schools met as part of the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic at Klockner Stadium. The Lady Vols won that game 1-0 as Kylee Rossi scored with 11 seconds remaining in the game.

NCAA Tournament History: The Cavaliers are making their 18th NCAA Tournament appearance, and 12th consecutive appearance. After Friday’s win over Liberty, Virginia has an all-time NCAA Tournament record of 11-15-3. Under Steve Swanson, the Cavaliers have a 8-4-2 NCAA Tournament record. Friday’s game is the 20th home NCAA Tournament for the Cavaliers, who have a 8-9-2 record in home tournament games.

Second Round Blues: Virginia looks to reach the round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in three seasons. In each of the last two seasons, the Cavaliers have been upset at home in the second round. Last year, Duke defeated Virginia 3-0 in the second round and in 2003 Villanova advanced over UVa in penalty kicks after a scoreless draw.
