Raleigh, N.C. – – Sophomore forward Yannick Reyering scored two goals including the game-winner in the 62nd minute as No. 2 Virginia defeated NC State, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Method Road Soccer Stadium. Senior forward Adam Cristman added an assist for the Cavaliers who remained undefeated at 5-0-0 and picked up their first Atlantic Coast Conference win of the season.

Each team found the back of the net early in the first half. NC State struck first in the eighth minute of action. Junior Ernesto Di Laudo got the ball along the right sideline and sent the ball into the UVA penalty box. The Cavaliers tied the game up just over four minutes later in the 12th minute. Adam Cristman dribbled the ball into the NC State end of the field, and slid a pass over to Yannick Reyering at the top of the 18-yard box. Reyering would strike the ball into the net for the equalizer.

The score would remain tied 1-1 at the half, with UVA putting up 10 shots compared to the Pack’s six attempts.

Virginia scored the only goal in the second half, the eventual game winner in the 62nd minute. UVa’s Ian Holder took a shot at the Pack goal, only to be stop by NC State’s Christopher Widman in goal. But the rebound came right to Reyering who netted his second goal of the game.

NC State had one last chance with seven minutes left, when freshman Alan Sanchez’s shot hit off the post from 20 yards out.

Virginia out-shot NC State, 17-11 and held a 6-4 advantage on corner kicks. Widman finished with four saves in 63 minutes of work in goal for NC State. UVa goalkeeper Ryan Burke allowed one goal in 90 minutes and had two saves.

Virginia returns to action Tuesday when the Cavaliers host St. Francis (Pa.) at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
