Truitt Leads UVa in Second Round of Rudolph

Franklin, TN – Virginia sophomore Carly Truitt shot a career-best 1-under 71 to lead the Cavaliers during the second round of Vanderbilt’s Mason Rudolph Championship. As a team, ninth-ranked Virginia shot 7-over 295 to enter Sunday’s final round in seventh place at 12-over 588.
Top-ranked Duke used a second-round score of 4-under 284 to leap No. 3 Georgia for the team lead. The Blue Devils stand at 567 while the Bulldogs are at 574. UCLA holds down third place at 576, Stanford is fourth at 582 and Oklahoma State and Wake Forest are one shot ahead of the Wahoos in fifth place at 587. A total of 12 of the 15 teams in the field are ranked in Golfweek’s preseason top-25 poll.
Truitt, who opened with an 80, posted 15 pars during the second round to go along with two birdies and a bogie. Sophomore Jennie Arseneault had three birdies and two bogies while posting UVa’s second best score Saturday of 1-over 73. She is tied for 19th overall along with Cavalier senior Leah Wigger who followed up her opening round 72 with a 74.
Lauren Mielbrecht is tied with Truitt for 45th place at 151 after she shot 77 during the second round. Rachel Smith is in 55th place at 154. She shot 80 in the second round.
UCLA’s Tiffany Joh and Duke’s Jennie Lee are tied for first on the leaderboard at 6-under 138 in the race for medalist honors.
