Cavalier Golfers in 10th Place at Shoal Creek

Birmingham, AL – The Virginia men’s golf team is in 12th place after the first 36 holes of play at UAB’s Shoal Creek Intercollegiate. The Cavaliers opened Monday’s play with a 18-over 306 and improved on that effort with a 297 during the afternoon for a first-day total of 603.

Alabama posted back-to-back rounds of even par 288 to carry a commanding nine-stroke lead into Tuesday’s final round. The Crimson Tide lead the field at 576 while Central Florida is second at 585.

The Cavaliers were led Monday by Andrea Signor, who posted rounds of 76 and 72 to finish at 4-over 148. Signor is in 24th place entering Tuesday’s final round. Conrad Von Borsig shot back-to-back 76s to finish 46th at 152. Daniel Kefale is one shot behind von Borsig in 51st place. He shot 78 in the morning and 75 in the afternoon. Greg Carlin is 55th overall 155 thanks to scores of 76 and 79. Daniel McGurk shot 86 in the morning but rebounded with a 74 in the afternoon, UVa’s second-best score during the second round. He is 69th at 160.

Alabama’s Gator Todd and Florida State’s Matt Savage share the first-day plead at 3-under 141.
