GERMANTOWN, Md. – – Forwards Yannick Reyering and Adam Cristman each scored first half goals and senior goalkeeper Ryan Burke picked up his seventh shutout of the season as No. 3 seed Virginia advanced to the Atlantic Coast Conference semifinals with a 2-0 shutout of No. 6 seed Clemson Wednesday night at the Maryland SoccerPlex. Burke recorded his seventh shutout of the season and 27th career shutout for the Cavaliers (14-3-0).

Burke’s 27th shutout tied the Virginia all-time record for career shutouts held by Jeff Causey.

The Cavaliers struck first at the 19:33 mark to go ahead, 1-0. Reyering finished his ninth goal of the season when he hammered home a long through ball from Nico Colaluca from the right wing.

Cristman answered less than three minutes later. Jonathan Villanueva slid a pass to the right side again. Cristman drew the Clemson goalkeeper off the line. He nailed home his seventh goal of the season extending Virginia’s lead to 2-0.

Virginia’s defense bogged down in the second half holding the Tigers scoreless despite Clemson out-shooting UVa, 10-4, in the second period. Burke tallied three second half saves and Ian Holder headed a ball off the line to save a Tiger goal in the 52nd minute.

Clemson out-shot the Cavaliers, 19-11, in the game. UVa held a 10-7 advantage on corner kicks.

Virginia will now face No. 2 seed Wake Forest at 5:30 p.m. on Friday night in the ACC Semifinals. Wake Forest defeated the Cavaliers, 2-1, at home last Friday.
