In The Batter’s Box With Michelle Salmiery

What sport would you play if you didn’t play softball and why?
If I didn’t play softball I think that I would like to play either tennis or volleyball -either way, I think I could have had a killer overhand serve.

If you could have lunch with any person in the world, who would it be and why?
If I could have lunch with any person in the world, I would have lunch with Bret Easton Ellis; I am a big fan of his books, but I would want to ask him just how he writes, at times, such disturbing material.

The one condiment I can’t live without…
Ranch dressing.

Best non-athletic talent…
Well, I do a pretty mean Cher impersonation. If I Could Turn Back Time is my personal favorite.

Most people would be surprised that I…
have a heightened sense of smell. I consider it both a blessing and, at times, a curse.

What is your most prized possession?
My most prized possessions are definitely my family and friends. To me, those relationships are far more important than any “thing” I could ever have.

If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would it be and why?
I would trade places with Nancy Pelosi because not only is she a very intelligent and thought provoking woman, but I think it would be interesting to know what it’s like for a woman to hold such an esteemed position in Congress.

What is your greatest fear?
Finding out the truth about what happens if you give a moose a muffin…

What is your favorite hobby?
One of my favorite hobbies is cooking for my roommates and myself. I love experimenting with new stuff and seeing what they’ll eat. I’m lucky they are all such nice people.

What is your favorite holiday and why?
My favorite holiday is the 4th of July because I love spending the long weekend on my parents boat with my family and friends and watching the fireworks display on the water.

What is your favorite UVa memory outside of softball?
My favorite memory outside of softball is having all of my friends and teammates over to have big barbeques in my old house whenever my parents come into town. My dad always cooks up something delicious and there is no better feeling than being surrounded by the people you love all having a wonderful time together.

What is your favorite food that you rarely eat?
My mom’s homemade Chicken and Dumplings.

I would buy a ticket to go see…
I would definitely see the Beatles, without a doubt.

If you could appear in any TV show it would be…
If I could be on any TV show, I would want to be on Oprah.

What do you love most about UVa and why?
What I love most about UVA is the fact it has surpassed every expectation that I could have had about college. It is such a wonderful place to be and offers students so many things on so many different levels, you can’t help but love to be a part of this community.
