Tallahassee, FL – Led by top-10 finishes from freshman Kyle Stough and sophomore Daniel Kefale, the Virginia men’s golf team used a strong final-round showing to place sixth at the 15-team Seminole Intercollegiate. The Cavaliers finished the 54-hole event at 16-over 880. Auburn won the team title at 865 while North Carolina was second at 870.

Kefale paced Virginia during the final round, shooing 3-under 69 to tie for 10th overall at 3-over 219. Stough, who shot a career-best 70 Monday, carded a 1-over 73 and also finished at 219. Conrad Von Borsig and Eamonn McLoughlin both shot even-par 72 Tuesday to give UVa a team score of 2-under 286, its best single-round outing of the season. Only East Tennessee State’s 285 bettered Virginia’s final round score. Von Borsig was 20th overall at 221 and McLoughlin was 29th at 223. Greg Carlin was 50th at 227.

Kefale’s finish was his second top-10 performance while it was the first in Stough’s career and it bettered his previous tournament score by 10 strokes.

Starting on the back nine, Kefale opened his round with birdies on two of his first three holes and then recorded an eagle on the par-5 15. He added another birdie on No. 18 to make the turn at 5-under. He posted seven straight pars before back-to-back bogies on his final two holes dropped him back to 69 for the day. Kefale’s 219 was one shot off his best tournament score.

East Tennessee State’s Rhys Davies took medalist honors by two shots at 210.

The Cavaliers complete their spring break by competing at the Jim Hackler Invitational March 11-12 in Myrtle Beach.
