The University of Virginia field hockey team, which earned an NCAA Quaterfinals berth in 2006, earned more academic honors as the National Field Hockey Coaches’ Association announced its 2006 National All-Academic Squad. Five Cavaliers, including Katherine Blair, Katherine Bounds, Lauren Elstein, Mia Link, and Kelsey Vonier, were honored for excellence in academics. Blair, Bounds and Link were all named to the All-ACC Academic Field Hockey Team earlier this year.

“The University of Virginia provides phenomenal opportunities for student-athletes in both academics and athletics, and excellence in both is celebrated by the university community,” said Virginia head coach Michele Madison. “We are proud of these women who have been able to achieve both personal excellence in the classroom while helping the Virginia hockey program build towards excellence on the pitch.”

This marks the fourth consecutive year that Blair has earned this distinction from the NFHCA. A member of the USA Junior National Team that placed seventh at the 2005 World Cup, Blair won three national titles playing in the USFHA national championships from 2004-2006.

Link was a teammate of Blair’s on the last two national championships and was also on the USA Junior World Cup team. Bounds was named to the National Honor Roll by womensfieldhockey.com for the week of November 9, 2006.
