RALEIGH, N.C. – The No. 3 Virginia men’s tennis team remained unbeaten in the ACC with a 4-3 win over No. 21 NC State Friday at Curtis & Jacqueline Dail Outdoor Tennis Stadium. With the victory, Virginia improves to 15-3 (3-0 ACC), while the Wolfpack fall to 15-4 (0-2 ACC).

The Cavaliers opened the match strong by sweeping the doubles matches for a 1-0 lead. The second ranked duo of Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) and Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.) topped No. 11 ranked Nick Cavaday and William Noblitt 8-4. No. 49 ranked team of Houston Barrick (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Dominic Inglot (London, England) downed James McGee and Jay Weinacker 8-5. Ted Angelinos (Athens, Greece) and Lee Singer (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) completed the sweep with an 8-6 victory over Andre Iriarte and Christian Welte at No. 3 doubles.

The doubles point proved crucial as the teams split the six singles matches. No. 2 Devvarman topped No. 38 Cavaday 6-1, 7-6 at No. 1 singles. Huey, ranked No. 22 nationally, downed McGee at 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 2 position. Barrick won at No. 4 singles for Virginia, defeating Iriarte 6-3, 6-2.

Virginia will return to action on Sunday when it visits No. 12 Wake Forest.
