Browns Summitt, NC – The 19th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team dropped back three spots on the leaderboard Saturday and will enter the final round of the Bryan National Collegiate in Browns Summit, N.C. in ninth place. The Cavaliers shot 319 during he second round after opening with a 300. Virginia is tied with Ohio State for ninth at 619.

Playing in blustery conditions, Leah Wigger carded UVa’s best score with a 4-over 76. She stands in ninth place at 3-over 147. Sunday she will attempt to record the 22nd top-10 finish of her career.

Virginia’s other scores during the second round included a 79 by Rachel Smith, an 81 by Kristen Simpson and 83s by Sally Shonk and Whitney Neuhauser. Smith is 35th at 154, Simpson is 53rd at 157, Shonk is 66th at 161 and Neuhauser is 69th at 162. Carly Truit, playing as an individual, is also 69th at 162. She shot 82 Saturday.

Florida posted the day’s low score, a 6-over 294 in the difficult conditions, to overtake Purdue for the team lead. The Gators 36-hole total of 592 is one shot ahead of both Duke and Purdue.

Duke’s Amanda Blumenherst and Purdue’s Maria Hernandez are tied for first at even-par 144.

Sunday’s final round will start at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start. Live scoring of the tournament is online at Golfstat.com.
