CARY, N.C. – The Virginia men’s tennis team advanced to the finals of the ACC Tournament for the fourth consecutive year, downing No. 14 Wake Forest 4-0 in the semifinals Saturday at the Cary Tennis Center. The Cavaliers will look to win their third conference crown in four years as they meet either North Carolina or Florida State on Sunday.

“I was pleased with our fight and energy, especially in the doubles,” said Virginia head coach Brian Boland, “To win the doubles point gave us a lot of momentum and we did a good job of carrying that into singles. Wake is a great team and they fought hard today and we know we are going to have another tough match tomorrow.”

In doubles, the Cavaliers (25-3) rallied to take the opening point from the Demon Deacons (21-6). Wake Forest took an early edge as Andrew Hamar and Steven Forman downed Ted Angelinos (Athens, Greece) and Lee Singer (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) 8-3 at the No. 3 position. To take the opening point, the Cavaliers had to rally from down a break at both the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Second-ranked Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) and Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.) avenged their only ACC loss of the season, topping No. 12 Todd Paul and Mariusz Adamski 9-7 at No. 1 doubles. Houston Barrick (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Dominic Inglot (London, England) clinched the point for UVa with their 9-7 win over Cory Parr and Charles Sartor at No. 2 doubles.

In singles, the Cavaliers quickly won three matches to clinch the dual match. At No. 2 singles, No. 20 Huey topped No. 47 Parr, the only ACC player to beat him this season, 6-2, 6-3 to make the score 2-0. It was Huey’s eighth consecutive win, as he improved to 31-6 on the season. Devvarman made the score 3-0 seconds later as he completed his second win over a top ten opponent in as many days, downing No. 7 Paul 6-0, 6-2. Devvarman is now 33-5 on the season, including a 25-3 mark at No. 1 singles. Angelinos clinched the dual match win at No. 6 singles, with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Jason Morgenstern.

Virginia will meet the winner of the North Carolina-Florida State semifinal in the final on Sunday. Match time at the Cary Tennis Center is set for 11 a.m.
