Charlottesville, VA – With four players among the top eight finishers after the first day of play, the Virginia men’s golf team enters the final round of its Cavalier Classic with an 18-shot lead. UVa posted rounds of 4-over 292 and 3-under 285 to take a commanding lead at Birdwood Golf Course Saturday with a 36-hole score of 1-over 577. UNC Greensboro is in second place at 19-over 595.

Virginia was led by sophomore Conrad Von Borsig and junior Greg Carlin who both shot 1-over 145 to tie for second after the first two rounds. Von Borsig carded rounds of 73 and 72 while Carlin shot 74 and 71. The 71 equals his best round as a collegiate.

Freshman Kyle Stough shot back-to-back 73s and is in sixth place at 146. Daniel Kefale opened with a 78 and then posted UVa’s best score of the day with a 3-under 69 in the afternoon to finish eighth at 147. Eamonn McLoughlin, who has Virginia’s best first-round score with an even-par 72, shot 79 in the second round and dropped back to 19th at 151.

Two Cavaliers are competing as non-scoring players. Daniel McGurk is in 21st place at 152 with scores of 79 and 73 while freshman Brendan Flatley is 42nd at 158. He shot 76 in his first round as a collegiate and 82 in the afternoon.

UNCG’s Drew Younts enters Sunday’s final round with an 8-shot lead over the pack of four golfers in second place. Younts shot 4-under 68 in the opening round and followed that up with a 69 in the afternoon for a 36-hole total of 137.

The second round gets underway at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at Birdwood. The Cavaliers will tee off at 9:20 a.m. from the first tee.
