CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Oregon State Beavers won the Charlottesville Regional with a 7-3 victory over Virginia in the championship game Tuesday afternoon at Davenport Field. The reigning National Champions will host Michigan in a super regional series next weekend.

Eddie Kunz allowed no runs on one hit in 1.2 innings of relief to pick up the win. He improves to 3-1 on the season. Joe Paterson pitched the final three innings, allowing no runs on two hits to record his first save of the season. Casey Lambert took the loss for Virginia, falling to 3-3 on the year.

The Beavers (42-18) took the early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first. Hopkins led off with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Darwin Barney walked and Mike Lissman followed with a double down the right field line to score Hopkins. Barney later scored on an RBI groundout by Ogata.

Virginia (45-16) answered with three runs in the top of the second to take a 3-2 lead. Beau Seabury and John Scaglione both singled to open the inning. A two-out walk to Mike Mitchell loaded the bases. Seabury scored on a wild pitch for Virginia’s first run of the game and Scaglione and Mitchell came around to score on Henry’s double to left.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Beavers added two runs to increase their lead to 7-3. A Hopkins single, an intentional walk to Barney, and a walk to Lissman loaded the bases with two outs. Ogata’s single up the middle drove in Hopkins and Barmey.
