Charlottesville The Virginia field hockey team got on the board early in the first half, but the Boston College Eagles (6-2, 1-1) notched the equalizer late in the half and then scored midway through the second half to take the lead and eventually the win. The Cavaliers (5-3, 0-1) outcornered the Eagles 9-2, allowing the visitors only one short corner in each half.

The Cavaliers go on the board first after Haley Carpenter intercepted a pass at midfield and got the ball up to Traci Ragukas, who drew a short corner. The attempt was blocked over the endline, giving the Hoos a long corner. The insert was tipped by a BC defender, but Ragukas collected it and chipped it to the roof of the cage at 5:13 for a 1-0 Virginia lead. Seven minutes later the Eagles gained the circle and after a short corner drew a long corner. Again BC attacked the circle and Kathleen Murphy poked the ball into the cage following a scramble, tying the game 1-1 at 12:25. The teams entered halftime tied at 1-1.

Ten minutes into the second half the Eagles drew their only short corner of the second half. The first shot was blocked, but Bob Dirks collected the loose ball and sent a reverse stick chip to the cage that was tipped into the net by Janna Anctil for the eventual game-winner.

The Cavaliers were able to draw three short corners in the final minute, including one at the very end of regulation, but they were unable to convert.

Virginia returns to action tomorrow, Sept. 23 as it hosts Boston University at 1 p.m.
