Tallahassee, FL With inclement weather expected for Tuesday in Tallahassee, the site of Florida State’s Seminole Intercollegiate, the tournament format was altered to play the final two rounds of the 54-hole event Monday. The schedule change had little impact on Virginia which cruised to a third-place finish in the 12-team field that included eight teams ranked in Golfstat’s top-50.

Cavalier sophomore Steven Rojas led the Cavaliers from wire-to-wire, posting a 4-under 212 to place fifth in stroke play. It was just Rojas’ second tournament appearance for Virginia. After shooting 4-under 68 on Sunday, the native of Aadorf, Switzerland had a 2-under 70 during the second round and a 74 in the afternoon session.

Virginia completed the event at 2-over 866, the team’s best score this season. Florida State, ranked 13th, won its own tournament with a score of 858 while No. 9 Auburn was second at 862. Finishing one shot behind the Cavaliers was No. 21 North Carolina at 867 while No. 31 Louisville was fifth at 873.

Freshman Will Collins turned in rounds of 72 and 75 Monday to finish 14th overall at 2-over 218. UVa’s Greg Carlin and Kyle Stough tied for 19th at 219. Both players managed a 69 during Monday’s play. Carlin was one of the hottest golfers on the course during the final round. He posted five birdies over his first six holes en route to his score of 3-under 69.

Conrad Von Borsig was 51st for Virginia at 229 and Amory Davis, playing as an individual, was 61st at 235.

Vanderbilt’s Jon Curran used back-to-back scores of 68 to take medalist honors at 10-under 206. Auburn’s Jay Moseley was second at 209.

Virginia returns to action March 10 for the two-day Palmas Del Mar Collegiate in Huarenco, Puerto Rico.
