BOSTON, Mass. Senior Billie-Jo Grant finished seventh in the shot put at the 2008 AT&T USA Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Boston, Mass. Many of America’s finest athletes are competing at the event this weekend, where national indoor titles and Team USA roster spots for the 2008 IAAF World Indoor Track & Field Championships are determined.

Grant, Virginia’s all-time record holder in the shot put, threw 50’10.26”/15.50m to place her seventh at the championships. Reigning champion Jillian Camarena won the title with a 59’5”/18.11m mark.

Volunteer coaches Tomika Ferguson and Adam Nelson will be competing tomorrow for a spot at the world championships, to be held on March 7-9 in Valencia, Spain. Ferguson, a 2007 graduate and two-time All-American will complete in the women’s triple jump, while two-time Olympic silver medalist Nelson will vie for a spot in the men’s shot put.

Nelson has twice set indoor personal bests, including the No. 3 throw of all time. His toss of 73’6”/22.40m on Feb. 15 at the Tyson Invitational puts him close to the indoor world and US record of 74’4.25”/22.66m held by Randy Barnes.
