CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia track and field team is competing in various events this weekend, highlighted by freshman Emil Heineking who will be competing this Sunday at the 36th IAAF World Cross Country Championships being held in Holyrood Park, in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Heineking qualified to represent Team USA by placing third in the 8k at the 2008 Junior Men’s Championships. Following his rookie season, he earned All-America status from the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association. He was also named the ACC Freshman of the Year and finished 56th at the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., this past fall.

The remainder of the Cavaliers will split and compete in two meets this weekend. The majority of the distance runners will compete in Raleigh, N.C., at the Raleigh Relays both Friday and Saturday, while the remainder of the group will compete on Saturday at the Hurricane Challenge, in Coral Gables, Fla.
