CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia track and field team will split up this weekend to compete in Notre Dame’s and Virginia Tech’s Last Chance meets, in order to ensure spots at the NCAA Championships beginning Friday, March 14, in Fayetteville, Ark.

Senior Emily Harrison has already provisionally qualified for the NCAA meet in the Mile (4:46.26), 3000m (9:30.24) and 5000m (16:25.79), but will run the 5000m in South Bend, Ind., this weekend in order to be sure of a spot at the national meet.

Senior Kara Scanlin has also provisionally qualified in the 5000m already, but will join Harrison at Notre Dame to better her qualifying time of (16:26.01).

Senior Huma Husain will round out the women’s party traveling to the Alex Wilson Invitational, racing the 800m. Her season-best time of 2:12.67 is three seconds shy of provisionally qualifying.

For the men traveling to Notre Dame for the Alex Wilson Invitational, the ACC Champion and championship record holding distance medley relay team of senior Alex Tatu, freshman Meikle Paschal, senior Jordan Orr and junior Andrew Jesien will be looking to guarantee Virginia’s third appearance at the NCAA meet in the last four years in the event. Tatu and Orr earned All-America honors in the DMR last year with a seventh place overall finish.

Juniors Andrew Biladeau and Kevin Tschirhart will run the 3000m, an event in which both scored at the ACC championships last weekend. Biladeau ran his personal-best time of 8:11.41 at this meet a year ago.

Heading to Blacksburg, Va., to compete in Virginia Tech’s Last Chance Invitational will be seniors Billie-Jo Grant and Reuben Jones. Grant is current ranked 19th nationally with her school record throw of 16.14m, a mark that provisionally qualifies her for the national meet.

Jones will look to better his time of 6.83 in the 60m dash. His time is less than one-tenth of a second shy of provisionally qualifying.

The Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind., will take place Friday, March 7-8, while the Virginia Tech Qualifier will happen on Saturday, March 8 only.
