Bethlehem, Pa. – Incoming Virginia freshman Brittany Altomare shot 4-over 75 during the first round of the U.S. Women’s Open at the Saucon Valley Country Club. The native of Shrewsbury, Mass. stood in 50th place in the 156-player field after Thursday’s play.

Altomare shot 4-over 40 on the front nine and finished the second half of her round by shooting par. She posted the seventh best score among the 28 amateurs in the field.

Following Friday’s second round the field will be cut to the lowest 60 scores, including ties, and any player within 10 strokes of the leader(s), after 36 holes of play. The first two rounds of the event are televised on ESPN while the weekend action will be broadcast by NBC.
