Crippen Places 14th in 400 IM

INDIANAPOLIS – The 2009 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships and World Championship Trials continued Thursday with the women’s 100m breaststroke, men’s 100m butterfly, women’s 50m freestyle, men’s 50m freestyle and women’s 400m IM.
Sophomore Claire Crippen finished 14th in the 400 IM and improved on her prelim time, clocking a mark of 4:48.33 in the evening session. The two-time ACC champion in the event clocked a time of 4:48.87 in the prelims to lead a trio of Cavaliers. Classmate Liz Shaw (4:55.73) was 41st and freshman Christine Olson (4:58.57) was 57th.
Olson finsihed 22nd in the 100 breast after finishing sixth in the ‘C’ final with a time of 1:11.04. She recorded a time of 1:11.15 in the prelims while senior Katherine McDonnell was 46th in 1:13.62.
Senior Mei Christensen (26.65) and junior Hannah Davis (26.76) placed 54th and 58th, respectively, in the 50 free.
USA Swimming also announced Thursday that former Cavalier Fran Crippen (2003-06) has been named to the United States’ 2009 World Championship Team as an open water swimmer.
