INDIANAPOLIS – The fifth and final day of the 2009 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships and World Championship Trials wrapped up Saturday with the women’s 100m freestyle, men’s 200m backstroke, women’s 200m breaststroke and men’s 200m backstroke.

Senior John Azar placed 23rd in the 200 breast, finishing seventh in the ‘C’ final with a time of 2:21.59. In the morning session, he swam a time of 2:20.00. Teammate Tim Hayes also placed 36th in the event with a mark of 2:23.04.

In the women’s 200 breast, newcomer Christine Olson recorded a 12th-place finish after touching fourth (2:30.94) in the ‘B’ final. Senior Katherine McDonnell placed 39th (2:39.51).

Daniel Johnson made the ‘C’ final after clocking a prelim time of 2:04.14 in the 200 back, but he was disqualified in the evening session.

Several Cavaliers will compete in the 2009 U.S. Open which is slated to begin Aug. 4 in Federal Way, Wash.
