Eight Cavaliers Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Eight Cavaliers have earned individual All-Academic honors as announced by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), while the Cavaliers’ women’s track and field team has received 2009 Division I All-Academic team honors.
Five Cavaliers, Amy Bilmanis, Lauretta Dezubay, Morgane Gay, Billie-Jo Grant and Ayla Smith, were named to the women’s All-Academic Track and Field team, while Kevin Anding, Andrew Jesien and Matt Meyer were named to the men’s team. A record total of 531 student-athletes representing 147 Division I institutions composed the women’s squad and 329 student-athletes representing 108 institutions made up the men’s side.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their respective event.
Virginia’s women earned a spot among the 130 Division I teams to be named an All-Academic team. To be nominated for the team award, the team must carry a minimum 3.000 cumulative grade point average.
