Loudon, TN – Virginia junior women’s golfer Calle Nielson earned the top seed in match play after winning the stroke play portion of the 2009 Women’s TRANS National Golf Championship at Tennessee National Golf Course near Knoxville. Nielson shot rounds of 66 and 71 for a 36-hole total of 7-under 137. The runner-up in stroke play trailed Nielson by five shots.

Nielson is the top seed among the 64 players who advanced to match play, which begins Wednesday. She will face Morgan Hale of Tullahoma, TN in her first match. The stroke play field included 120 players. Match play results are available by clicking here.

The Women’s Trans National Golf Association has conducted the TRANS Amateur Championship since its inception in 1927 at various country clubs across the United States who invited TRANS to their course. TRANS is one of the longest consecutively running women’s amateur championships in the country and it continues to draw a strong field of career amateurs and LPGA hopefuls alike. Among its many champions and/or competitors are Brittany Lang, Paige Mackenzie, Nancy Lopez, Lorena Ochoa, Grace Park, Judy Bell, Carol Semple Thompson, Babe Didrikson Zaharias and Patty Berg.
