Loudon, TN – Virginia junior women’s golfer Calle Nielson has advanced to the quarterfinals of match play at the 2009 Women’s TRANS National Golf Championship at Tennessee National Golf Course near Knoxville. Nielson earned the top seed in match play after winning the stroke play part of the event by five shots.

In the round of 16 Nielson breezed to a 6 and 5 victory against Schelling, Kristen of Mesa, Ariz. She opened match play with a 4 and 2 win against Hale Morgan and then downed Rachel Rohanna in a 22-hole marathon to advance to the round of 16 Thursday afternoon. The tournament runs through Saturday.

The Women’s Trans National Golf Association has conducted the TRANS Amateur Championship since its inception in 1927 at various country clubs across the United States who invited TRANS to their course. TRANS is one of the longest consecutively running women’s amateur championships in the country and it continues to draw a strong field of career amateurs and LPGA hopefuls alike. Among its many champions and/or competitors are Brittany Lang, Paige Mackenzie, Nancy Lopez, Lorena Ochoa, Grace Park, Judy Bell, Carol Semple Thompson, Babe Didrikson Zaharias and Patty Berg.
