CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. The No. 11 Virginia baseball team posted a 9-3 win over Georgetown Wednesday night at Davenport Field. Jarrett Parker (So., Stafford, Va.) homered as part of a three-hit night, while Corey Hunt (R-So., Charlottesville, Va.) also had a season-high three hits.

Phil Gosselin (So., West Chester, Pa.) hit the go-ahead three-run home run in the fifth inning for Virginia (32-8-1).

Will Roberts (Fr., Richmond, Va.) started for Virginia and pitched five innings, allowing three earned runs, four hits and one walk while fanning four. He improved to 3-0 on the season. The Cavaliers’ bullpen of Tyler Wilson (So., Midlothian, Va.), Sean Lucas (R-Fr., Fishkill, N.Y.) and Justin Thompson (Fr., Danville, Va.) did not allow a hit over the final four innings.

Jared Cohen (0-2) took the loss for Georgetown after starting and going five innings, giving up four earned runs and six hits while striking out two.

The Cavaliers jumped ahead in the third inning when Parker hit a solo home run into the left-field bleachers. It was Parker’s 12th home run this season, which is tied for eighth in the Virginia single-season record books.

Georgetown (11-26) came back and took a 3-1 lead in the fourth when Sean Lamont crushed a three-run shot into the trees in left-center field. The home run was Lamont’s 11th this year.

The Cavaliers forged ahead in the fifth inning when Gosselin cranked a three-run home run into the bleachers to score Hunt and John Hicks (Fr., Sandy Hook, Va.). The long ball was Gosselin’s fifth of the season and gave him a team-high 51 RBI this season.

Virginia blew the game open by sending 11 batters to the plate in a five-run seventh inning. Hunt doubled to lead off and scored on a Parker single to right field. Hicks followed with a single and one out later Dan Grovatt (So., Tabernacle, N.J.) walked to load the bases. Steven Proscia (Fr., Suffern, N.Y.) then hit a two-run single and the two remaining baserunners advanced on an error by left fielder Sean Baumann.

Hicks was erased at the plate on a Tyler Cannon (Jr., Pigeon Forge, Tenn.) fielder’s choice for the second out, but John Barr (So., Ivyland, Pa.) reached on a fielding error to load the bases. Jared King (Fr., Radford, Va.) walked to force in a run and Hunt followed with an infield single to bring home the fifth run of the inning and the final run of the game.

Virginia is back at Davenport Field this weekend when it plays host to NC State in a three-game ACC series. The games are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
