CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Virginia pitchers Andrew Carraway (Sr., Marietta, Ga.) and Danny Hultzen (Fr., Bethesda, Md.) each have been named to the initial watch list for the 2009 Pitcher of the Year Award, presented by the College Baseball Foundation and Mizuno.

The pitcher of the year will be honored during the College Baseball Awards Show on July 2 in Lubbock, Texas.

Carraway and Hultzen are two of seven ACC pitchers named to the watch list.

Carraway is 5-0 this season with a 3.39 earned run average in 10 starts. He has pitched 61.0 innings and allowed just 47 hits and 17 walks, with opponents hitting an ACC-low .212 against him.

Hultzen is 6-0 this year with an ACC-low 2.30 ERA in 10 starts. The Cavaliers’ Friday night starter has pitched 58.2 innings while striking out 75 batters (third in the ACC). In ACC games, he has a 4-0 record with an impressive 2.89 ERA. He also owns five games with eight or more strikeouts.
