GREENSBORO, N.C. – Two members of the Virginia cross country program were recognized by the Atlantic Coast Conference after strong performances at the ACC Championships. Maria Hauger (Shakopee, Minn.) was named ACC Women’s Cross Country Freshman of the Year and Thomas Madden (Front Royal, Va.) was named the ACC Men’s Cross Country Freshman of the Year.

The ACC Freshman of the Year honor goes to the top true freshman to cross the line at the ACC Championship meet. Hauger earned All-ACC honors with an overall 10th place finish at last week’s meet, crossing the line in 20:39.9 as the Cavalier women finished second. Madden was 45th in the men’s race, posting a time of 25:06.7 as the Virginia men placed fourth.

The Virginia cross country teams will return to action in two weeks with the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships. The regional meet will be hosted by Virginia at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va., on Nov. 15.
