Hilton Head, S.C. – The 28th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team is tied for 12th place following Friday’s opening round of play at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C. The Cavaliers shot 21-over 305. Duke, ranked No. 3 nationally, leads the field at even par 284.

The 17-team field includes 12 teams currently ranked in the top 25 of the most recent Golfstat poll.

Virginia was led by Portland Rosen and Lauren Coughlin, who both shot 4-over 75 at the Long Cove Club. They are tied for 32nd place. UVa’s other scores included a 76 by Elizabeth Brightwell to position her in 45th place and 79s by Lauren Diaz-Yi and Briana Mao. They are tied for 67th overall.

The second round of the 54-hole tournament takes place Saturday. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
