CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s lacrosse team continues ACC play on Saturday when the Cavaliers (8-3, 1-2 ACC) travel to Chapel Hill to face the North Carolina Tar Heels (8-2, 1-2 ACC). Faceoff is set for 3 p.m. UVa shares the No. 8 ranking in the USILA coaches poll with Syracuse and is ranked No. 9 in the Warrior/Inside Lacrosse media poll. North Carolina is No. 5 in both the media and coaches poll.

ESPNU will televise the game live in HD with Anish Shroff bringing the play-by-play, Quint Kessenich adding color analysis and Paul Carcaterra roaming the sidelines. There will be a live audio webcast for a subscription cost on VirginiaSports.com through Cavaliers Live. John Freeman will bring the play-by-play and Doug Tarring will provide the game analysis.

Saturday marks the 77th all-time meeting between the Cavaliers and the Tar Heels, a series the Cavaliers own a 49-27 advantage in since 1938. Facing the Tar Heels every year since 1964, UVa earned a 15-10 win during its last visit to Fetzer Field in 2012. The 2012 regular season win is the last one for the Cavaliers in the series as the Tar Heels have won three straight. UNC’s ACC semifinal win in 2012 over UVa snapped a nine-game winning streak for the Cavaliers. UNC’s three-game winning streak is the longest in the series for the Tar Heels since winning four straight during the 1990-92 seasons.

Mark Cockerton leads UVa with 32 goals, while James Pannell is No. 2 on the team with 30 goals. Cockerton is No. 4 in the nation in goals scored and Pannell is No. 5. Cockerton leads UVa with 43 points, which ranks No. 7 nationally. Ryan Tucker rounds out the top goal scorers with 17 scores, while Owen Van Arsdale has a team-best 22 assists along with 31 points. Van Arsdale is also seventh nationally in assists. Mick Parks leads UVa with 39 ground balls, while Joseph Lisicky and Scott McWilliams have each caused 16 turnovers. Matt Barrett is saving 47.0 percent of shots between the pipes and is posting a 11.07 goals against average.

North Carolina head coach Joe Breschi is in his sixth season at North Carolina and returns 32 letterwinners from last year’s 13-4 NCAA quarterfinal squad. Joey Sankey leads UNC with 24 goals and 18 assists for a team-best 42 points. Pat Foster is second on the team with 25 points on 15 goals and 10 assists. Jimmy Bitter and Chad Tutton round out UNC’s top scorers with 17 and 15 goals, respectively. Kieran Burke is saving 57.5 percent of shots he is facing between the pipes and is posting a 7.71 goals against average.

UVa returns to Klöckner Stadium on Friday, April 11 when the Duke Blue Devils come to Charlottesville. The ACC contest will start at 6 p.m. and will be televised live on ESPNU in HD.
