Men's Tennis Hosts NC State and Wake Forest

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The fifth-ranked Virginia men’s tennis team will play its final two regular season home matches of the season this weekend at the Snyder Tennis Center. The Cavaliers host No. 32 NC State Friday at 3 p.m. and No. 23 Wake Forest Sunday at 1 p.m.

Admission for all home Virginia tennis matches is free and parking is available at the Culbreth Garage. Live scoring and video of both matches will be available at VirginiaSports.com.

Sunday’s match will be senior day for the Cavaliers. A ceremony honoring Alex Domijan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.), Justin Shane (Falls Church, Va.) and Ian Uriguen (Guatemala City, Guatemala) will be held in between doubles and singles of the Wake Forest match.

The Cavaliers (17-2, 8-0 ACC) will clinch their 11th consecutive ACC regular season title with a pair of wins this week. Virginia has won 115 consecutive matches against conference opponents (regular season and postseason), one shy of the ACC all-sport record of 116 set by the Duke women’s tennis program from 1989-2000. The Cavaliers’ last loss to an ACC opponent came in the 2006 ACC Tournament final, a 4-3 defeat to Duke.

NC State (14-7, 3-5 ACC) is coming off its biggest win of the season, a 4-3 upset of No. 12 Notre Dame on Sunday. The Cavaliers have won 15 straight matches in the series, with the Wolfpack’s last victory coming in 1999.

Wake Forest (14-8, 3-4 ACC) and Virginia meet Sunday in a rematch of last year’s ACC Tournament final. The Demon Deacons, who swept a doubleheader with Boston College and George Washington Sunday, will visit Virginia Tech Friday before travelling to Charlottesville. Virginia has won the last 19 meetings between the schools since Wake Forest’s 4-3 in the 2003 ACC Tournament quarterfinals.

Virginia will conclude the regular season on Apr. 19 at Virginia Tech before travelling the following week to Cary, N.C., for the 2014 ACC Tournament.
