CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s and women’s track and field teams had four athletes honored by the ACC Friday as the conference announced the 2014 All-ACC Academic Indoor Track and Field Teams. The Cavalier men and women each had two honorees who were recognized for succeeding both academically and athletically.

To be eligible for All-ACC Academic Team consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during their academic career.

Senior Thomas Porter (Fredericksburg, Va.) was named to the men’s team for the third consecutive year after earning All-ACC honors with a third-place finish in the 3000m at the ACC Indoor Championships. First-year Aaron Worrell (Fort Eustis, Va.) was recognized after a rookie campaign that included a second-place finish in the triple jump at the ACC Championships.

Seniors Vicky Fouhy (Buckinghamshire, England) and Barbara Strehler (Richmond, Va.) were both named to the women’s team for the second consecutive year. Fouhy placed seventh in the mile at the ACC Championships, while Strehler would have been one of the top seeds in the 5000m, but had to miss the ACC Championships due to injury.

The Cavaliers will compete next week at the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The meet will run Thursday-Saturday in Chapel Hill, N.C., on the campus of North Carolina.
