CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s lacrosse team returns to action on Saturday afternoon when the Cavaliers (8-5) host the Bellarmine Knights (6-4) at Klöckner Stadium. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m. UVa is ranked No. 9 in the USILA coaches poll and No. 10 in the Warrior/Inside Lacrosse media poll.
Gates open at 12 p.m. and free parking is available in the University Hall, John Paul Jones Arena and McCue Center lots and the Emmet/Ivy Garage. Baseball hosts North Carolina at 1 p.m. on Saturday and baseball fans will be able to access the same parking lots.
There will be a video webcast on VirginiaSports.com through Cavaliers Live for a subscription cost. John Freeman will bring the play-by-play and Doug Tarring will provide the analysis.
Thirteen fourth- and fifth-years will be honored before the game as part of this year’s Senior Day festivities. Charles Bilello (team manager), Mark Cockerton, Rob Emery, Pat Glading, Pat Harbeson, Bobby Hill, Chris LaPierre, Joseph Lisicky, Scott McWilliams, Frank Price, Matt Robertson, Blake Riley and Owen Van Arsdale will all be honored.
Saturday marks the third all-time meeting between the Cavaliers and the Knights, a series that began in 2006 during Bellarmine’s second season at the NCAA Division I level. Virginia rocked Bellarmine 21-10 as part of the Cavaliers’ perfect 17-0 NCAA title season. UVa hosted the Knights on Senior Day in 2013 and came away with a 12-7 win behind four goals from Cockerton and three scores from Emery.
Cockerton leads UVa with 37 goals, while James Pannell is No. 2 on the team with 34 goals. Cockerton is No. 5 in the nation in goals scored and Pannell is No. 7. Cockerton leads UVa with 49 points, which ranks No. 10 nationally. Ryan Tucker rounds out the top goal scorers with 19 scores, while Owen Van Arsdale has a team-best 24 assists along with 34 points. Van Arsdale is also 10th nationally in assists. Mick Parks leads UVa with 47 ground balls, while McWilliams has caused 19 turnovers. Matt Barrett is saving 46.1 percent of shots between the pipes and is posting a 11.50 goals against average.
Bellarmine head coach Kevin Burns is in his third season with the Knights. Bellarmine comes to Charlottesville 6-0 in the non-conference portion of its schedule. Bellarmine is 13-11 under Burns since the start of the 2013 season after going 4-8 during his first season as head coach of the Knights. Tucker Ciessau leads the Knights with 23 goals and 28 points. Austin Shanks is second on the team with 16 goals and 19 points. Chad Mitchell rounds out the top scorers with 14 goals and 11 assists for 25 points. Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List honoree Bobby Schmitt leads the Knights with 32 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers. Will Haas is saving 53 percent of the shots he has faced in between the pipes and posting an 8.54 goals against average.
Virginia returns to action on April 26 in the ACC Championship Showcase Game against North Carolina. The neutral-site contest will be played at PPL Park in Chester, Pa.

Reserved seats for men’s home games are on sale for $10. Single-game general admission adult tickets for men’s home games are $8, while youth (18 and under), seniors (60 and over), and UVa faculty and staff tickets are $6 each. General admission tickets for groups of 20 or more are priced at $4.
