Virginia Closes Home ACC Schedule Against No. 22 Notre Dame This Weekend

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The Virginia softball team closes out its home ACC schedule this weekend (April 18-19) against No. 22 Notre Dame at The Park. Friday’s doubleheader is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start, while Saturday’s first pitch is slated for noon.
There will be a special ceremony before Saturday’s game to honor the Cavaliers’ three seniors, Marcy Bowdren (Fairfax Station, Va.), Stephanie Harris (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Karli Johnson (Lovettsville, Va.).
Admission to all Virginia softball home games is free to the public. Live statistics for all three games will available at VirginiaSports.com. Saturday is also a CavMan’s Crew day at The Park where there will be face painting and balloon artists for youth in attendance. After the game, there will be an Easter Egg Hunt.
The Cavaliers (6-35, 1-19 ACC) come into the weekend after being swept by Virginia Tech in a three-game series April 12-13 in Blacksburg, Va. Last time at The Park, Virginia swept Delaware State, 8-0 and 2-0, on April 9. Sophomore Aimee Chapdelaine (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) pitched the first two shutouts of her career and freshman Madison Labshere (El Cajon, Calif.) hit two home runs against the Hornets.
Notre Dame comes to Charlottesville with a 26-9 record (6-4 ACC) after splitting a pair of games with No. 9 Florida State in Notre Dame, Ind., on April 13. The Fighting Irish are led by Karley Wester, who is hitting .440, while Laura Winter is 16-4 with a 2.29 ERA.
Up next, the Cavaliers conclude their 2014 home schedule with James Madison in a doubleheader on April 22 at 5 p.m. and Liberty in a twin bill on April 23 at 4 p.m.
