Virginia Finishes Home Schedule with Doubleheaders Against JMU, Liberty

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The Virginia softball teams closes out its 2014 home slate Tuesday and Wednesday (April 22-23) with doubleheaders against in-state competition at The Park. Tuesday’s doubleheader with James Madison is set for a 5 p.m. start, while Wednesday’s twin bill is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
Admission to all Virginia softball home games is free to the public. Live statistics for all four games will be linked at VirginiaSports.com.
The Cavaliers (6-38) dropped a three-game series against Notre Dame this past weekend (April 18-19) at The Park. Virginia rallied for eight runs in the finale, including junior Megan Harris’ (Knoxville, Tenn.) first home run of the season, but it was not enough as the Irish won, 15-8.
James Madison comes to Charlottesville with a 33-13 record after sweeping North Carolina, 5-1 and 7-2, April 16 in Harrisonburg, Va. Erica Field leads the Dukes with a .329 batting average, while Jailyn Ford (17-6, 1.41 ERA) and Heather Kiefer (16-7, 2.14 ERA) handle most of the pitching duties.
Liberty (7-40) hosts East Tennessee State on Tuesday before heading to Charlottesville. The Flames went 1-2 against Winthrop over the weekend in their last outing. Katie Zavodny leads the team with a .346 batting average and Megan Robinson paces the squad with seven home runs.
The Cavaliers conclude the 2014 season at Boston College this weekend (April 26-27) in a three-game series. Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start, while Sunday’s first pitch is slated for noon.
