CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia head wrestling coach Steve Garland has announced his program’s recruiting class for the upcoming 2014-15 school year. The class was rated 14th-best nationally and tops among all ACC programs by InterMat.
The class consists of nine student-athletes: Zak DePasquale (Fairfax, Va./Robinson), Jake Henson (Marietta, Ga./Pope), Chance McClure (Commerce, Ga./Commerce), Garrett Peppelman (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin), Cam Perry (Ellijay, Ga./Gilmer), Dom Scalise (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe), Will Schany (Blair, Neb./Blair), Austin Underwood (Tampa, Fla./Jesuit) and Tommy Yozzo (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley).
“This is a very driven group of guys we have brought in for next year,” Garland said. “All of them have succeeded at a high level in high school. They have pushed themselves academically as well as in the wrestling room and these are the type of student-athletes we want. We have a culture of pursuing excellence in everything we do, and we are hopeful that this group will continue to help us grow that culture.”

Two-time Pennsylvania State Champion
Won 185 matches in his high school career
Dapper Dan winner (defeated then-No. 1 ranked Ryan Blees) and Dream Team Winner
16th ranked overall recruit in nation at any weight class
No. 2-ranked prospect at 160 pounds, according to InterMat
Will Schany (projected 174/184)
Three-time Nebraska state champion
NHSCA Junior National champion
No. 61 overall prospect in the nation at any weight class
No. 7-ranked recruit nationally at 182 pounds
Chance McClure (projected 197)
Four-time Georgia state champion
NHSCA Junior National Champion
Fargo Champion (Greco) and Fargo Freestyle All American
Participated in the USA Dream team dual meet vs. Georgia
No. 14-ranked recruit nationally at 220 pounds
Austin Underwood (projected HWT)
Florida State Champion
Took third place at Super 32
No. 15-ranked recruit nationally at heavyweight
Jake Henson (projected 165)
Three-time Georgia state champion
NHSCA High School All-American
Competed in USA Dream Team dual vs. Georgia (against future teammate Garrett Peppelman)
Dom Scalise (projected 174)
Placed third at National Prep Championships as junior
As a senior he placed in Pennsylvania state championships
Won the prestigious PowerAde tourney his senior year
Cam Perry (projected 141)
Two-time Georgia state champion
Two-time Fila Junior National All-American (Greco)
Competed in USA Dream Team dual vs. Georgia
